It makes the AKC name more synonymous with responsible breeding programs while at the same time offering them a chance of increasing registrations of dogs with proven quality. Breeders must apply to the AKC to be recognized as Breeders of Merit and must meet the following requirements: Have a history of at least 5 years involvement with AKC events.
